Smartphone nowadays have become a lot advanced. Devices now comes with high capacity batteries, all thanks to new-gen Silicon Carbon battery tech. On the other hand, charging time has been drastically reduced as well. Brands now ship their devices with the support of fast charging tech, with some brands going as high as 120W.
Yet, a major drawback of fast charging is that each manufacturer uses its own proprietary technology, making it nearly impossible to achieve the same charging speed across different brands with a single adapter. This is where universal standards like PD (Power Delivery) and UFCS (Universal Fast Charging Specification) come into play, offering a unified fast-charging solution for all devices. And now, the Chinese tech giants Huawei, HONOR, Vivo and OPPO has collaborated for the UFCS 2.0 tech.

Huawei, HONOR, OPPO and Vivo collaborates for UFCS 2.0
UFCS, which stands for Universal Fast Charging Specification, was first introduced in 2021 jointly by Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi. It serves as a base technology for framing a cetnralized mobile fast charging standard. Now, its time for the second generation of UFSC tech. It’s called the UFCS 2.0 and four major Chinese brands: Huawei, HONOR, OPPO and Vivo have come together to standardize the technology.
The UFCS 2.0 introduces some technical upgrades over the older tech. One of the key upgrades is the support of upto 40W unautheticated power delivery charging. This means that the user will be able to charge their device at upto 40W without needing the proprietary charging technology of the brand.
Another key improvement done in the newer tech is the introduction of reverse charging feature. This allows the device to reverse charge the other device at a faster rate, regardless of the brand. UFCS 2.0 also enables the adapter to automatically detect and adjust the charging output based on the connected device. Overall, it brings improvements in terms of both charging protocols and safety.
