OnePlus is one of the most popular premium smartphone brands. However, their track record doesn’t speak well for the brand as hundreds and thousands of devices were affected by the green line issue in the past. And even before that, there was a widespread motherboard dead issue with the OnePlus 6 and 7 series devices. And that motherboard failure issue is now making a problematic comeback to the OnePlus 9 and 10 series.
Multiple users are reporting motherboard failure issues on their OnePlus 9 Pro and 10 Pro
Both the OnePlus community and Tech X (Twitter) are now getting flooded with users reporting motherboard failure on their OnePlus devices. For now, the issue seems to be affecting the 9 and 10-series devices, particularly the OnePlus 9 Pro and 10 Pro.
The exact cause behind the failure remains unknown. But, all the devices have one thing in common and that’s the recent July SOTA update. This makes us raise our eyebrows over the update. The SOTA update is meant to enhance the system experience and is usually rolled out to update and enhance the system applications. The update is universal for all the OnePlus devices.
But regardless of the reason behind the widespread failure, what is more peculiar is the brand’s response. There has been no official statement or update from OnePlus on the issue yet.
Some users were asked to pay as much as 42,000 for the repair, others were denied repair and asked to get a new device
Yes, you read the title right. When a user with his dead OnePlus 10 Pro visited the service centre, he was asked to pay as much as INR 42,000 for the repair. And what’s more infuriating is that the device right now costs less than 45,000 online.

The reason behind the issue is not yet known but it is worth noting that the user complaints shared in the X post are from the past two months.

In another case, a user was denied repair for his dead OnePlus 9 Pro and was advised to get a new device altogether. Why the service center responded this way remains a mystery. However, there could be only two explanations: either the spare parts are no longer available, or the service center staff were being overly considerate, knowing that a new device would cost almost the same as the motherboard repair charges.

So continuing to my past tweet (https://t.co/KK8IWpv6UM), here's what happened today. At 11:30 AM, I reached the service centre and handed them a copy of my job sheet to get the OnePlus 9 Pro back. They told me to wait for a few minutes. I…
Flagship devices deserve flagship treatment
Whether it be the OnePlus 9 Pro or the 10 Pro, both are a flagship smartphone that used to cost the same as the latest OnePlus 12. And when we refer to any device as “flagship” we not only expect it to have top-of-the-line hardware but best-in-class after-sales and support as well. This seems to be missing in the current scenario.
OnePlus is known as a premium brand, and they must handle the situation with affected users in a way that doesn’t damage their reputation. The problem has already made the news, and it’s crucial that the brand takes responsible action and offers a solution to those impacted. It would be great if affected users could receive a replacement or repair, and an official acknowledgment of the issue from the brand would also go a long way.
