Google is actively working on the Android 16 operating system. The launch of the OS might happen as early as next month, which is quite ahead of the usual rollout schedule of the Google’s Android. There have been several new UI and visual changes done in the upcoming Android 16, as per the rumours. A recent report now reveals the the Google is planning to bring a desktop experience feature for its next iteration of Android.

Android 16 might bring desktop experience
Popular publication Android Authority, in its latest report, claims that a new change was spotted in the recent build of the Android 16 Beta. The addition was discovered on the developer options setting. It is named “Enable desktop windowing on secondary display”. Though the exact functionality of the setting remains unknown, the publication was able to turn it on.

Once the feature is turned on and the device is connected to an external display, the whole UI, including apps and settings reflects into the display in the form of PC-like UI. The Android taskbar, status bar and three-button navigation button appears. On the taskbar, we can see several pinned apps like Phone, Messages, Camera, Chrome and an icon to trigger app drawer.
The new feature enables the user to launch and use several apps at once in the floating window, and in a bigger screen. Samsung already has a feature similar to this, and they call is Samsung DeX. We will get more details about the feature once it rollouts out to the broader audience–which is expected to happen once the stable rollout starts.
