How to Clean Up Your iPhone and Keep It Running Smoothly

An iPhone has become a loyal assistant for millions of people around the world. We use it to snap high-quality pictures, shoot videos with rich, impressive color palettes, take part in online conferences, and even do our work.

Everyone knows that iPhones are durable and capable of running multiple processes at the same time; however, it doesn’t mean they have no limits. The more you use your device, the more cluttered it becomes.

Photos, interrupted downloads, gigabytes of data you accumulate after using apps and browsing the Internet, files you never noticed you got: anything can become a problem. Find out how to do a regular iPhone cleanup to avoid the worst and keep your phone running smoothly.

Four Steps to Clean Up iPhone

There are four key steps to follow on your way to cleaning your iPhone.

Step 1: Use Specialized Cleaning Apps

Considering how popular iPhones are, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that you can get an app designed for keeping your device clean.

One of the best and quickest solutions is to use a professional iPhone cleaner app to free up your storage and get rid of all the annoying clutter. Such apps require minimal effort from you: all you have to do is check what they flag for deletion and agree or decline the offer.

What can an iPhone app of this kind do? Take a look:

  • Get rid of clutter. App cleaners can find the files you long forgot about, like accidental and deliberate screen recordings, nearly identical photos, etc.
  • Help manage storage. They can sort your storage files into appropriate categories and underline which of them take up the most space and which ones can be deleted.
  • Compress heavy videos. Some of the best helpers can make your videos lighter by compressing them.

There is no need to delete the files you care about unless you want to. iPhone cleaners can make smart suggestions and compress the largest files easily; they are capable of clearing out terabytes of data over time.

Step 2: Understand Your Storage

The next step toward learning how to clean an iPhone is checking and maintaining your storage. This is what you should do:

  1. Go to your Settings; click General and then iPhone Storage.
  2. You’ll see all the apps and folders that are taking up your space.
  3. Delete the apps you aren’t actively using; you can download them again later.
  4. In the storage settings, enable the Offload Unused Apps feature.

This way, you’ll be able to control your storage and the space in it.

Step 3: Clean Safari Cache and Offline Data

Apple has reached over 2 billion active devices in 2026; this shows that more and more people use iPhones and Macs, and everything that comes with them, like Safari. Unfortunately, while helpful, these Apple features can also eat a big chunk of your phone’s memory.

Browsing through Safari leaves behind a lot of cached files, cookies, and even offline lists. Clear them, and you’ll see some improvements in your device’s performance.

How should you do that? It’s simple. Just go to your Settings and find Safari there. You’ll see the Clear History and Website Data option: give it a click. Do it at least once a week, or once every three days if you use Safari often.

Step 4: Go through Your Photos and Videos

This step is the hardest, but it’s also one of the most effective solutions available to you. Free up iPhone storage by going through all the photos and videos you’re storing. Some suggestions:

  • Remove all the duplicates and pics that barely differ from one another. Almost every user has them.
  • Go through all the screenshots you took and delete them. You’ll find a lot of receipts, accidental screen captures, and so on.
  • Transfer the photos and videos you don’t think you actively need. You can keep them in your cloud; this will free up plenty of space.

Transferring your photos and videos will also guarantee that they stay safe even if you end up losing your iPhone. If you’d like faster results and a minimum of manual work, install special cleaners and/or optimize your storage.

For that, head to Settings and find Photos there. You’ll see the option called Optimize iPhone Storage. Enable it, and your device will keep smaller versions of pics, storing high-resolution images in iCloud.

Keep Your iPhone Healthy and Running

Keeping your iPhone full of space is possible even if you’ve been using it for a really long time. Install a professional cleaner designed specifically for iPhones; check your storage frequently, and keep cleaning your cache every week.

Pay particularly close attention to your photos and videos. Remove those you don’t need regularly; transfer some others to the cloud, and you’ll have a lot of space left.
