iPhone 17 series to pack Samsung’s best display, even better than Galaxy S25 Ultra

Apple is set to host a new event in just a few days, where it is anticipated that the company will unveil the iPhone SE 4. This upcoming release has been a hot topic within the tech community. In addition to the iPhone SE 4, numerous leaks regarding the iPhone 17 lineup have surfaced online. The iPhone 17 series is rumored to feature significant upgrades compared to previous models. A recent report suggests that the iPhone 17 lineup will include Samsung’s best OLED displays to date, which are expected to outperform those found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

iPhone 17 series will get Samsung’s most advanced OLED display

The M14 OLED displays are currently the Samsung’s most advanced display technology. For your reference, this type of display can provide upto 30% higher brightness than the M13 OLED panels which are present on the Galaxy S24 lineup. The S25 lineup packs an M13+ OLED display which is a little improved version of M13, but still falls below M14 in terms of efficiency and overall performance.

The Apple iPhone 17 series will get the M14 display tech, which is the best display tech ever made by Samsung. It can even outperform Galaxy S25 Ultra’s display in some aspects. The M14 panel was previously reserved for Pro model iPhones in the 16 series. However, the brand is now bringing it to all the models in the iPhone 17 series, which is indeed a good news. Since both vanilla and Pro model iPhones are going to get similar display panel, we can expect ProMotion 120Hz display on the vanilla iPhones as well.

The M14 OLED display boasts such advanced hardware that even the M13+ OLED panel found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, despite its AI features and software enhancements like AI ProScaler technology, simply cannot compete with the M14. The reason why Samsung chose not to include the M14 panel in the S25 series remains unclear. However, it is likely a business decision aimed at saving costs by using the M13+ panel in their devices while maximizing profits by selling the more advanced M14 to other manufacturers, such as Apple.

The introduction of M14 panels to the iPhone 17 lineup is surely going to be a win-win for the consumers, as they will now get a better, brightner and more vibrant display. But will they have to pay more for this upgrade remains a question for now.
