Samsung is one of the leading display manufacturers globally. Majority of the Android devices, even iPhones and some other gadgets relies on Samsung for their displays. The company has now reportedly showcased an OLED panel that as built-in sensor to detect fingerprint across the scree and therefore eliminating the need to install any dedicated fingerprint reader.

Samsung’s new OLED display tech can detect fingerprint and heart rate across the screen
Samsung has displayed an interesting concept at the Society for Information Display’s (SID) Display Week 2025 expo which is being held in San Jose, USA. The new Sensor OLED panel showcased by the firm brings an embedded orangic photodiodes (OPDs) directly into the panel. Because of this, the panel can double up as fingerprint reader and can also detect heart rate. Both of these detection can be done by putting the finger anywhere on the screen.
Right now, most phones have fingerprint scanners—either ultrasonic or optical—placed in one spot under the screen. But with this new tech, you can scan and use your fingerprint anywhere on the screen. Plus, you can check your heart rate by just placing your finger on any part of the screen, not just a fixed spot.
Aside from acting as a fingeprint reader and a heart rate scanner, the panel can even detect blood pressure, stress level and other related heath metrics, just like the smart fitness trackers. However, how reliable the reading are is yet to be tested since the product is not yet commercially available. However, we are expecting the new display technology to land in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy flagships.
