DSCC recently released a report uncovering the global sales trends for foldable devices, predicting a huge increase in foldable sales during the third quarter of 2023 and revealing the sales rate of Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei and more.
Samsung dominates the foldable market – 2023 Q2
As of 2023 Q2, Samsung holds the 1st position in foldable sales with a sales rate of 32%, and right behind Samsung is Huawei, with a market share of 30%. Huawei’s top-selling models are the Mate X3 and Pocket S.
Chinese foldable manufacturers are doing their best to ensure that phones have a slim design, and Samsung has adhered to the same design lines for a long time. While Honor Magic V2 measures 9.9mm in thickness when folded and the Z Fold 5 is 13.4mm thick. Samsung’s foldable is about 30% thicker than Honor’s, but Samsung still dominates the market in the 1st position.
In the second quarter of 2023, foldable sales increased by 42% on a yearly basis, and DSCC predicts that this growth will continue. Additionally, Samsung’s flexible OLED panel sales accounted for 63% of the total market, marking Samsung’s lowest share since 2021. However, most of the OEMs still prefer to use Samsung made displays.
Samsung holds the first position in the market share for foldables in 2023 Q2, but Honor and Huawei are right behind Samsung. To maintain the leadership in the upcoming years, Samsung needs to work on presenting a more innovative and sleek design.
