Google has always been against the use of adblock. It has taken several steps in the past to block the use of it in as many ways as possible. However, some users are still using adblockers as it can easily bypass the restrictions put by the tech giant. But Google being Google, has now introduced a new strategy, which, if implemented properly, will make the users de-activate their adblockers.
Google targets YouTube ad blockers with long unskippable ads
Several users have reported that they’re facing ads lasting over an hour. Some users have mentioned that the duration of ads they got was even longer than three hours. While these ads do fulfil its primary purpose of promoting the product or services, it also stops users from watching the content given the length of ads are way too long.
It’s a very mischievous tactic to compel users to either disable their ad blocker or switch to YouTube Premium.
Google in its statement has openly defended its action and says that ads are important to support the content creators. Their official statement reads “Ads are a vital lifeline for our creators that helps them run and grow their businesses. That’s why the use of ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service. We’ve launched a global effort to urge viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium for an ad free experience.”
