YouTube Premium subscription is often considered one of the most cost-effective subscription plans, especially in countries like India. It provides a range of benefits, including an ad-free experience on YouTube, the ability to download videos, background playback, and access to YouTube Music. For those who may not know, the company previously offered a plan called ‘Premium Lite,’ which provided only an ad-free YouTube experience at a lower cost but without any additional features. However, this plan was eventually discontinued.

YouTube Premium Lite plan is coming back!
Google or YouTube did not explicitly mentioned a reason behind the plan to discontinue the Premium Lite plan. However, back in 2024, the company rolled out the plan to selected regions for testing purposes. It was made available in the countries like Germany, Australia and Thailand.
Now, months after its testing period, the publication Bloomberg reports that YouTube is considering to bring a new pocket-friendly plan for its viewer the ‘YouTube Premium Lite.’
The package is expected to be announced soon in the US, Australia, Germany, and Thailand. The plan aims to target viewers who are primarily interested in content other than music videos. With the YouTube Premium Plan Lite, users will have access to a vast library of podcasts and how-to clips without any advertisements, while music videos will still contain ads. In addition to the previously mentioned countries, this upcoming plan is anticipated to be released in more countries in the future.
