Sony is one of the leading camera sensor manufacturers in the world. Almost all the flagship smartphones have Sony image sensor in its primary camera. The Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, the firm responsible for manufacturing and service of image sensors, has officially launched its new CMOS image sensor, the LYT-828.

Sony LYT-828 with improved HDR and 50-megapixel resolution announced
Sony’s new CMOS sensor, the LYT-828 is a 1/1.28″ (or 12.49 mm diagonal) stacked CMOS sensor. The combined pixel resolution of the sensor is 50-megapixel. One of the most significant upgrades of the sensor is the newly introduced Hybrid Frame-HDR or HD-HDR technology support.
HR-HDR uses the combination of single-frame HDR with Dual Conversion Gain (DCG) and multi-frame HDR. Using all of it, the sensor merges the short exposure frames with DCG data during the image processing.
The LYT-828 lens is capable of achieving the dynamic range exceeding 100db. This is the highest value among Sony’s mobile CMOS sensors to date. This enables the sensor to capture image closer to how we see in in the real life. It further combines the improved HDR control with Loss-Less Exposure (LLE) to achieve better control over exposure and achieve better signal-to-noise ratio.
Several other improvements have been made to the sensor. The LYT-828 can capture better low-light images and can pull-in more details in artificial lightning situations. The sensor is scheduled for the mass production in latest August 2025. The upcoming flagship devices such as Vivo X300 Pro and OnePlus 15 may use this lens.
