Gold doesn’t exactly grow on trees in World of Warcraft—although with Herbalism, you can get pretty close. Whether you want to fund your raid consumables, pay for your next shiny mount, or simply watch your gold pile get bigger, the game gives you plenty of ways to make money—you just need to know which ones are actually worth your time.
From chill and almost passive income streams to complex operations that can feel like running a real-world market, here are some of the best gold-making methods in WoW Midnight Season 2.
Dual Gathering
If you want a simple and reliable way to start making gold, the classic setup of Herbalism + Mining is still an all-time go-to pick.
It doesn’t require a huge starting investment or any specific gear. You just run around the current expansion zones, pick flowers, mine ore, and sell everything on the Auction House. For Herbalism, keep an eye out for Tranquility Bloom, Sanguithorn, Azeroot, Argentleaf, and, if you’re lucky, Null Lotus.
On the Mining side, look for Refulgent Copper, Umbral Tin, and Brilliant Silver. At the current moment, these are among the better-selling resources, but before starting any farming route, you should always check the Auction House first and make sure you’re not wasting your time on the farms that won’t pay off.
Crafting
If gathering is the raw-material side of the economy, crafting is where you turn those mats into finished products that players actually need.
If you have absolutely nothing in your bank, you can farm crafting mats yourself or browse the WoW gold for sale on a currency-selling service like WowVendor and get any amount you need delivered straight to your character.
In terms of gold making, Alchemy is one of the safest long-term choices. Raiders and M+ players constantly burn through tons of potions, flasks, and other consumables, and that demand isn’t going anywhere while people are still pushing PvE content, so there is always money to be made as long as you can supply.
To squeeze even more profit out of it, try to have your consumables ready around raid nights and weekends, when player activity tends to spike.
Other solid money-makers in crafting include:
- Inscription: Missives, Darkmoon Cards, and profession gear.
- Jewelcrafting: Gems, rings, and prospecting.
- Tailoring: Cooldown cloth, gear, and niche Housing recipes.
- Enchanting: Scrolls, weapon and gear enchants, and disenchanting.
And don’t forget to use the Crafting Orders system. It basically gives you guaranteed payment for completing somebody else’s requests without relying on Auction House sales. Check your available orders regularly and knock out the profitable/useful ones while you’re already managing your profession.
Concentration Alts
Concentration plays a huge role in the current crafting economy. It’s a character- and profession-specific resource that can be spent on certain crafts to improve their quality.
One particularly effective gold-making strategy is building Concentration alts. You create several low-maintenance alts, pick up a profession with Concentration-based crafts for each of them, then take those professions to the relatively low skill threshold (around level 25), get a small amount of Knowledge to unlock a spec node, and dedicate each character to one specific high-value craft.
The basic loop is to let the Concentration regenerate (it takes roughly four days to refill), log in from time to time, spend the accumulated Concentration on profitable crafts, sell the results, and start the cycle again.
This way, you’re essentially building a small roster of passive-ish gold printers without having to fully max out every profession or spend a huge amount of time gearing and optimizing each character.
Housing Decor
If you’re already using your professions for gold making, Housing is a natural extension of the same strategy. It’s essentially another form of crafting: you need the right profession, the right recipe, and the right materials, plus some Lumber, which you can easily collect while running your gathering routes.
And don’t forget about the wider world. World and raid content can also drop valuable and exclusive decor pieces that you can auction for a nice profit.
Weeklies, World Quests, and World Activities
Sometimes the easiest gold is the gold the game practically throws at you. Weekly quests and events, World Bosses, and World Quests don’t take much time, but they can provide a steady source of income that doesn’t depend on Auction House prices or market fluctuations.
Always check your Silvermoon weeklies. Some of them involve ridiculously simple objectives, such as having a drink in a tavern, yet still reward you with guaranteed raw gold along with various goodies that you can sell on the Auction House. Also, make sure to complete the Soiree event and kill the weekly World Boss.
Weekly and event rewards include caches containing around 2,000-5,000 gold on average, but sometimes raw drops can reach up to 18,000 gold.
Auction House Flipping
Finally, we get to the method for people who actually enjoy staring at numbers.
Flipping means buying an item when it’s underpriced and reselling it later for more, keeping the difference as profit.
The biggest advantage is that you don’t have to farm anything, touch a single mob, or even leave the city, for that matter. Everything is done inside the Auction House.
Cross-realm flipping can be a particularly lucrative strategy because different servers can have wildly different prices depending on supply and demand. You buy low where the market is cheap, then sell where collectors or players are willing to pay more.
Sounds simple in theory, right? Well, it’s not quite that simple in practice.
For this method to work, you need to know what you’re doing. You’ll need enough gold to fund your initial flips, enough knowledge to recognize a genuinely good deal, and enough market awareness to know when, where, and for how much to sell your inventory for maximum profit.
On top of that, you’ll have to get familiar with tools such as TradeSkillMaster (TSM), which lets you set up groups and operations, snipe out underpriced items, automate posting, and simplify other Auction House routines.
Flipping can make enormous amounts of gold, but it’s much better suited to experienced players than someone opening the AH for the first time.
That doesn’t mean you can’t learn, though. Start small, learn the market, and only scale up once you’ve got your feet under you and feel confident about what you’re buying and selling.
