iOS 16 has been available since September, and Apple has released several updates, the latest being iOS 16.5.
Although this update isn’t loaded with new features, it adds a My Sports tab to the News app and includes some critical bug fixes.
How can I download iOS 16?
- Plug in your iPhone and connect to Wi-Fi:
Ensure your phone is connected to a power source and a Wi-Fi network.
While these steps aren’t strictly necessary (you can install updates without being plugged in if you have enough battery), it’s better to be safe, especially for large updates like iOS 16.
Using Wi-Fi is recommended to avoid excessive cellular data usage unless you have an unlimited data plan.
Additionally, it’s a good idea to back up your device before updating.
- Go to Settings:
Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap General.
- Select Software Update:
In the General section, choose Software Update to check for available updates.
- Download and install the update:
If iOS 16.5 is available, tap Download and Install.
- Enter your passcode:
You’ll be prompted to enter your passcode to proceed with the installation. If asked about using cellular data, make your selection.
If you don’t have a suitable data plan, choose Don’t Use Cellular Data.
- Agree to Apple’s terms of service:
You’ll need to agree to Apple’s terms and conditions to continue. After doing so, the iOS 16 update will begin downloading.
- Install the update:
Once the download is complete, tap Install Now. The installation process will start, and your device will restart.
Don’t turn off your iPhone manually during this process. Once the update is finished, your phone will restart again.
To verify the update, go back to the Software Update menu in Settings—it should display that your iOS is up to date.
How can I set my iPhone to update automatically?
- Enable Automatic Updates: Go to the Software Update section in Settings and tap Automatic Updates.
- Turn on iOS Updates toggle: Slide the toggle next to Download iOS Updates to enable automatic updates. You can also activate Security Responses & System Files to allow your device to install critical security updates as soon as they are released.
You can also choose to enable automatic installation of beta updates if you’re part of Apple’s software beta program.
