iQOO plans to skip or discontinue its Pro model of smartphones

More and more brands are lined up to launch its first flagship smartphone powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Xiaomi is also among them. Conversely, Vivo is also all set to launch X200 and X200 Pro devices. iQOO is also getting ready to introduce its device very soon. However, there’s a catch. Some early reports making internet rounds claim that iQOO is planning to skip the Pro model device this year.

Here’s why iQOO might skip Pro-model device this year

iQOO plays its game very strategically. And probably the decision to skip the Pro model device in China is a part of its newer strategy only. Further, iQOO is known to provide best-in-class performance in its devices. The Pro models launched in the really didn’t perform well in the market because of the lacklustre sales.

Adding up to this, a Chinese tech blogger claims that iQOO is also going through a hard time positioning the Pro device within the portfolio of the iQOO brand. He says that some inherent challenges and limitations have been seen in the previously launched Pro variant of devices.

Another reason reported is its association with Vivo. While Vivo is commonly believed to be a complete brand that is present in all segments and covers different target audiences, the iQOO is more believed to target performance enthusiasts. This general perception stops the brand from portraying itself as a standalone brand. This is also reasonable given that it is still a subsidiary of Vivo.

Further, devices such as iQOO 12 Pro, 11 Pro and others weren’t launched outside of the Chinese market, but the non-Pro variants did. So this might be another reason why the brand doesn’t want to launch the Pro model and skip it altogether.
