OnePlus is under the radar as lawmakers seeks a security probe

Two lawmakers in the US, coming from both the Republican and Democratic Party, has requested the Commerce Department to launch an official investigation against the popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus over possible security concerns. One lawmaker who requested the probe is John Moolenaar, a Republican who chairs a House of Representatives committee on China. The other is one of the panel’s top Democrat, Raja Krishnamoorthi.

As per the lawmakers, an analysis submitted by an unnamed company to the committee suggests that OnePlus’ devices might be potentially collecting and transmitting user data. The data could include sensitive personal information that maybe transferred to serves under Chinese jurisdiction.

Now since this is a serious allegation, the lawmakers have requested the Commerce Department to launch a probe against OnePlus. The committee wants to determine user data types collected by the brand without the consent of the user.

If an official investigation is launched against the brand, it could result into some serious consequences for the brand. But since it’s a developing situation, it would be better to wait for further official stuff to take place before drawing any final conclusion.
