Qualcomm will launch its Snapdragon X PC chipset for budget Windows laptop

Qualcomm recently entered into the PC chipset market by entering its powerful Snapdragon X Elite chipset. The X Elite is so powerful that it can go toe-to-toe with the Apple’s M series chipset. It’s mainly known for its “lower power consumption rate” despite having such powerful hardware. This chipset was launched primarily for high-end laptops; hence, all the laptops packing this chip come with a premium price tag.

However, it now seems that Qualcomm is looking to expand further into the PC chipset market. They will soon launch a new Snapdragon X chipset, targeting budget Windows laptops.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X for budget PCs are coming soon

The first chipset launched by Qualcomm for PCs was good. After seeing its success, the brand launched a Snapdragon X Plus chipset that particularly targets Windows laptops priced around $1000, down from the $1200 target of X Elite. But now, the firm is working on a cheaper iteration of its Snapdragon X chipset for the PCs.

In its recent Investor Day Presentation, Qualcomm revealed its plan to launch a budget Snapdragon X chipset that will target laptops priced around $700. This plan aims to make the tech accessible to a wider audience, as per the brand. This will also benefit the brand by expanding its market share further.

More details on its specifications and other features remain unknown. However, Qualcomm has confirmed that the upcoming budget Snapdragon X chipset will feature the same Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that was found in the high-end Snapdragon PC chipsets. The NPU ensures that the chipset doesn’t turn into a power-hungry machine and also complements its AI performance.

The new plan of Qualcomm seems very intriguing and it would be very interesting to see how Qualcomm competes with what we say the “current market leaders” AMD and Intel in this price range. No doubt, their first generation of product was very good. But launching a budget-oriented PC chipset isn’t an easy task. The brand has to do some cost-cutting here and there to provide a powerful and efficient chipset. And to know about all these, we will have to wait a few more weeks. But one good thing, the chipset might by default bring the support of Copilot+ PC in Windows.
