Today’s launch event brought us both Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro smartphones and they became the first phones to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Qualcomm has just announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and it delivers high performance compared to the predecessor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Xiaomi 14 series rocks not only in performance but also showcases significant enhancements in design and camera capabilities. Xiaomi has transitioned from using Leica’s Summicron lenses to now providing more premium “Leica Summilux” lenses.
Xiaomi 14
Xiaomi 14 has a compact design in the same way as Xiaomi 13. Xiaomi seems to be releasing this new one to address all the downsides of Xiaomi 13. Xiaomi 14 comes with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support, last year’s Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro lacked the fast USB speeds. Xiaomi 13 Ultra was the only phone to have fast USB speeds but Xiaomi seems to be raising the standards this year. Let’s see what Xiaomi 14 offers.
Design & Display
Xiaomi 14 comes in four different color options: black, white, green and pink. The phone has both leather and glass back and an aluminum frame. On the rear, Xiaomi 14 features a triple-camera setup and an LED flash.
Xiaomi 14 boasts one of the most significant improvements over its predecessor when it comes to the display. While Xiaomi 13 offered a Full HD resolution, Xiaomi 14 takes a step up with a 1.5K resolution (460ppi), falling between Full HD and QHD. You can expect a quite sharp image quality thanks to the compact 6.36-inch display size.
Xiaomi has chosen to incorporate a Chinese-manufactured display once again. Xiaomi 14 is equipped with a 6.36-inch C8 AMOLED display made by Huaxing. This display offers support for LTPO technology and provides a variable refresh rate from 1-120 Hz. This new panel can give whopping 3000 nits of brightness, which is crazy for a smartphone.
Xiaomi 14 boasts super thin display bezels, measuring just 1.61mm in thickness, which is notably slimmer than 1.75mm iPhone 15 Pro display bezels. The display is also good at rendering colors, capable of giving 12 bit colors. That was 8 bit on Xiaomi 13. The display has thin bezels and a thin body, Xiaomi 14 weighs 193 grams and has 8.2mm thickness.
Performance & Battery
Xiaomi’s 14 series is the first smartphone lineup to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and that comes with a significant increase in performance compared to the Gen 2.
Xiaomi has been quite generous at giving users a good performance experience, we had 16GB+1TB variants and now Xiaomi sets a new standard with storage. The base variant of Xiaomi 14 comes with 256 GB storage, whereas Xiaomi 13 that’s been introduced last year has 128 GB of storage as the base.
Xiaomi 14 boasts a 4610 mAh battery and promises a full charge time of just within 31 minutes thanks to the 90W fast charging. This is quite impressive for such a compact device. Xiaomi 14 supports wireless charging at 50W, charging completely in 46 minutes. If you need more battery life, you should opt for the Pro model though.
Camera
Xiaomi 14 comes with a triple camera setup, consisting of an ultrawide-angle camera, a main camera, and a telephoto camera. The main camera houses a 50 MP 1/1.31-inch sensor, paired with an f/1.6 lens.
The telephoto camera has a 75mm focal length and offers 3.2x optical zoom, allowing you to get as close as 10 cm. There’s also a 50 MP ultrawide-angle camera onboard. Xiaomi has chosen to go with OmniVision on their main camera for this time even though they don’t want to call it OmniVision at the launch event, Xiaomi 14 equips OV50H image sensor on its main camera, the aux cameras feature Samsung JN1.
Xiaomi 14 can record 4K 30FPS video with its front cameras. While 4K video recording with front facing camera is not new for Xiaomi, having 4K front video recording in their flagship lineup is a first. In addition to that, Xiaomi 14 is capable of recording 10 bit LOG videos.
Xiaomi 14 Pro
Xiaomi 14 is a highly capable phone but Xiaomi 14 Pro is made for those looking for a better experience overall. While the “Xiaomi 14 Ultra” wasn’t unveiled during today’s launch event, Xiaomi 14 Pro is a model that will satisfy photography lovers without a doubt, Xiaomi keeps the Ultra as a secret for now.
Design & Display
Xiaomi 14 Pro will feature both aluminum and titanium frames and will be available in 3 different colors: white, green and black. Xiaomi has decided to make the titanium one exclusive to the users want to buy the 16GB+1TB variant, you eventually need to pay more to get the titanium one. Don’t forget that there are 2 different 16GB+1TB variants and titanium is the more expensive one, you can find the pricing details at the end of the article.
Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with a 2K 6.73-inch AMOLED display, whereas Xiaomi 14 uses a flat screen, but in the Pro model, it’s curved and it’s not just the two edges of the phone but both the top and bottom of the phone is curved, like the previously released Mi 11. Xiaomi 14 Pro has 1.8mm display bezels and 2.08mm chin.
The display comes with whopping 3000 nit brightness just like the vanilla 14, the phone comes with Huaxing C8 AMOLED panel and supports LTPO (1-120 Hz). The 14 Pro’s display has 1920 Hz PWM dimming.
Camera

The aux cameras share the same 50 MP Samsung JN1 sensor, the telephoto camera is capable of 3.2x optical zoom and the ultrawide angle camera has 14mm focal length with f/2.2 aperture.
Performance & Battery
Xiaomi 14 Pro, just like the vanilla model, comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The difference in performance between the devices can be attributed to thermal management and battery size due to the size difference between them. Xiaomi claims they achieved around 30% performance increase.
Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with a slightly larger battery, 4880 mAh, and supports 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The phone can be fully charged from 0 to 100% within 18 minutes.
