Xiaomi is already developing the next generation of flagship smartphones powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, the Xiaomi 16 Series. Previously it was revealed that the 16 Series smartphones especially vanilla 16 and 16 Pro will get a major battery capacity upgrade and now we have some news regarding the imaging configuration of the device.

According to Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi 16 once again hinted to have a similar camera configuration as its predecessor with a slight upgrade in the main camera. The Xiaomi 16 will be equipped with a 50MP OV50Q main sensor, boasting a 1/1.3-inch sensor size. This large sensor is said to be more powerful thanks to LOFIC technology and is expected to deliver exceptional detail, better low-light performance, and enhanced dynamic range. The OV50Q is part of OmniVision’s latest lineup, designed to compete directly with Sony’s top-tier mobile sensors.
Complementing the main camera will be a 50MP ultrawide lens and a 50MP floating telephoto lens, which is designed for both zoom shots and close-up macros. It can be seen that the secondary camera specifications of Xiaomi 16 remains almost the same as its predecessor Xiaomi 15 which is kind of disappointing as everyone was expecting a upgrade to periscope camera.
Launch Timeline
Xiaomi 16 Series is currently scheduled to debut at the end of September in China. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset will be introduced at the same time, and the 16 Series will be the world’s first phones to debut with the new generation of flagship chip.
