The Xiaomi 15 lineup was recently unveiled in mainland China. While the devices launched were good, they failed to meet the fans’ expectations. This was primarily because there were no major upgrades in the key areas of the device, such as cameras. However, we have now started hearing some rumours about the successor of Xiaomi 15, the Xiaomi 16 device. As per some early reports, the device will get much-awaited upgrades. The camera specifications of the device have been tipped online.
Xiaomi 16 will get upgraded camera setup with periscope telephoto lens
The Xiaomi 15 offers a 50MP triple rear camera setup with a wide, ultrawide and a 2.6X optical zoom telephoto lens. The setup remains similar to the Xiaomi 14, however, as per a new leak made by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Xiaomi 16 device will get an upgraded periscope telephoto lens against the normal telephoto.
The periscope telephoto lens enables manufacturers to achieve higher optical zoom values, typically above 3X. In contrast, regular telephoto lenses are bulkier and are generally used for optical zoom ranges below 3X. Aside from this difference in size, there is no notable distinction in image quality between the two types of lenses. The introduction of the periscope lens in the Xiaomi 16 indicates that the brand may offer higher zoom capabilities in its devices.

Moreover, the tipster says that the device will be powered using SM8850 chipset. This is nothing but the successor of Snapdragon 8 Elite and will be most probably known as Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. We don’t know much about the chipset but some leaks reveals that it will be built on 3nm finfet technology of TSMC and will offer better GPU performance than its predecessor.
