The Q1 2025 global smartphone market share results are out. Samsung has retained its number one position globally as per data released by International Data Corporation (IDC), second position is followed by Apple. Xiaomi, maintaining its steadfast growth, achieved the third position in the world.
The global rankings show a healthy competition at the top three positions but the story is quite interesting in Mainland China, the world’s largest smartphone market where Xiaomi has jumped to the top spot in Q1 2025 with 18.6% market share. This is a significant milestone for the brand, given it saw a remarkable 40% year-over-year (YoY) growth in the area, the greatest of the top five smartphone brands.

Xiaomi’s performance in the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2025 was nothing short of phenomenal. Xiaomi, with a 40 percent YoY growth, outsold long-standing competitors such as Huawei, Vivo, and Apple. The phenomenal growth is credited to healthy consumer reception of its latest flagship and mid-tier smartphones.
Two product lines were the prime movers responsible for this hike — Xiaomi 15 Series and Redmi K80 Series. These devices have managed to resonate well with the consumers as it comes with the latest features, at a competitive price, and premium design.
As 2025 carries on, all shall be looking towards Xiaomi to see if the Chinese brands can hold this incremental and imagined to possibly scare off the top 2 brands on the global market.
On the other hand, Samsung and Apple remain steady with their global performance. Samsung’s wide-ranging portfolio and early Galaxy S25 series launch were key to its number one spot, and Apple was also not very far behind in terms of overall volumes. It was a power player as the sales of the iPhone 16 series are still far ahead of any competitors in the high-end market.
