Apple iPhone 17 Air may cut down on some basic features, 17 Pro tipped to get aluminium frame

Apple recently launched its iPhone 16 lineup of devices which includes the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. The 16 series didn’t see any major hardware changes except for a few upgrades here and there. Apple introduced its new capacitive camera control button and that’s it, that’s the only new thing we get on the iPhone 16 lineup. But per the rumours, the iPhone 17 lineup will have some big changes; not just in terms of hardware specifications, but as a lineup overall.

There have been a lot of reports claiming that Apple is working on a new iPhone model which will land as iPhone 17 Air and it might very well replace one of the existing models of the series. What will happen exactly can only be confirmed after the launch and we still have a long way to reach there. But before that, let’s have a look at some other rumours related to the series.

Apple iPhone 17

Apple iPhone 17 Air might not get some basic features and the iPhone 17 Pro will bring back the aluminium frame.

As per rumours, Apple will introduce a new device called “iPhone 17 Air” next year and as the name implies, it will the the thinnest and lightest iPhone of the series. However, another source reveals that Apple will have to cut down on a lot of basic features to achieve this thin and lightweight design. The design is said to be as thin as 5mm or 6mm.

While achieving this thinness is possible; the engineers at Apple are finding it difficult to fit-in some basic components like batteries or a proper heat dissipation system. How Apple engineers will fix this remains a mystery and can only be seen in the coming months.

To give you more reference, there are several reports which claim that the iPhone 17 Air will cut down on a lot of basic features. A report says that there won’t be any ultrawide or telephoto lens which is a bummer for 2025 standards. Not only this, another report claims that it might miss out on a dual stereo speaker setup and might have only one speaker support. All this is done only to make the device as thin and as light as possible.

As for the iPhone 17 Pro models, a report from The Information claims that Apple is planning to switch back to aluminium frame design for the 17 Pro and Pro Max. The brand recently introduced titanium frames in the iPhone Pro models. Now why they are switching back to the Aluminium remains a mystery.

All and all, we can safely say that a lot of things are going to be changed with the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. It will change how we look at the base models of the iPhones.
