A few weeks ago, some rumours claimed that Redmi was working on a compact flagship smartphone. This device was said to target users who want compact and small devices without any major compromise on the specifications. Rumoured specifications indicated the presence of flagship Dimensity 9400 or Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, along with powerful 50-megapixel cameras and a big 6000mAh battery.
However, even before the users could dream of using it, Redmi has reportedly dismissed the plan of launching a compact flagship device in the very last stage of planning.
No Redmi compact flagship smartphone, says tipster
Digital Chat Station on Weibo says “Oh, by the way, the evaluation of the Redmi small screen is completed, and it has been decided not to make it.” The device he is referring to in his post is no other than the upcoming Redmi compact flagship smartphone which was reportedly in the works. After considering all the factors, Redmi has decided not to proceed with the development of the device and it won’t make its way to the market now.

The exact reason for this move remains unknown but this could be very disappointing for a lot of users. When it comes to the compact flagship market, the options are very limited. Vivo X200 Pro Mini was recently introduced as a compact mini flagship with some amazing specifications. Xiaomi 15 is also going to offer a 6.4-inch display, which is not compact but can cater to the needs of users who want a compact device. It would be worth seeing how it manages to hold up against the competition, even though the competition is very limited.
Keeping the Redmi’s discarded compact flagship aside, the brand is working tirelessly to launch the Redmi K80 and K80 Pro smartphones in mainland China. These devices are expected to be launched in the country very soon. The Pro model is said to offer specifications such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile chipset, along with 6000mAh silicon carbon battery tech. It will also have support for faster charging, a 50-megapixel triple rear camera setup with a telephoto zoom lens and a lot more. The non-pro model might get a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with an even bigger 6500mAh battery. The camera setup is expected to remain on both the devices.
