Xiaomi will be releasing the Xiaomi 15 Series in China soon, in October. However, the flagship that everyone is looking forward to, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, will be launching next year in Q1. This year, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in China and globally. The phone is hands down the best imaging smartphone you can buy globally, so everyone is eagerly waiting to see what the next iteration of the Ultra will offer.
Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s New Periscope Camera and Chipset
One of the biggest upgrades, and also my favorite, is the addition of a new periscope camera on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The current Xiaomi 14 Ultra has an IMX 858 5X periscope camera, but this will be changed to a 7X/8X periscope camera on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The sensor is currently unknown, but according to our sources, it will be a new Sony sensor with a similar size to the IMX 858, which is 1/2.51 inch. This makes the Xiaomi 15 Ultra the smartphone with the longest optical periscope zoom camera in 2025. The zoom will be backed by Xiaomi Ultra Zoom AI 2.0.
The smartphone will feature a quad-camera system with a 50MP 1-inch main camera with a stepless variable aperture, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP 3.2x floating telephoto camera, and a 50MP 7X periscope camera. Of course, all the cameras will be co-engineered with Leica.
Another highlight of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is that it will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile SoC. According to the latest rumors, the chipset is said to have even lower power consumption than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The GPU performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be significantly better than the already powerful 8 Gen 3. Paired with a 6000mAh battery, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will offer exceptional battery life. The smartphone will also feature an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, just like its younger siblings, the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro.
