Xiaomi Announces Closure of its HyperOS Public Beta Program

Almost all the online communities related to Xiaomi are now flooded with the news of the upcoming HyperOS 2.0. A recent leak also confirms that it will indeed launch this year; on the anniversary of the HyperOS 1.0. But before moving to the launch, Xiaomi has taken a huge step for its software department. As per the recent info, the brand has decided to shut down the public beta testing program of its mobile software.

Xiaomi Devices Will No More Get Public Beta of HyperOS

Public beta testing is an important part of completing the final development of any software before releasing it to the public. Xiaomi’s public beta started when the MIUI came into existence. The program not only allows the general user to experience new or in-testing features before stable rollout but helps the brand in fine-tuning the software as well.

But unfortunately, Xiaomi is now shutting down its public beta testing program of HyperOS. This means that no public beta versions will be released for future HyperOS versions starting the 2.0. However, the closed beta testing will happen as usual. No changes have been made to the closed beta program.

The closed beta program refers to rolling out an early build of software to the company employees and very selected users before public beta rollout. However since Xiaomi has decided to shut down its public beta, only the closed beta will now serve the purpose of fine-tuning the software.

Xiaomi has announced that OS1.0.24.7.28.DEV will be the last version of public beta and devices running on this will be soon switched to the stable version. As of now, the public beta is available for a broad range of devices such as the Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi 13 series, Redmi K60 series, Xiaomi MID Fold 3 and Fold 4 etc.

What is Public Beta and Why is it Important?

Whenever a new software for mobile comes, it goes through three different stages before the final stable rollout. The first and earliest stage is developer testing where only the developers of the firm have access to the software and they use it to find any major flaws. After that, the software is moved to closed beta testing where only a certain number of people have access to the build. Closed beta builds are generally more stable than developer builds.

After closed beta, the software moves to public beta where general people can access the build but the number of people who can use it is generally pre-defined. This build is the closest to stable and almost all the major bugs and issues are eliminated at this point.

All these different stages of testing act as a filter. Now after making sure that no major flaws are there in the system, the software is rolled out to the general public in the form of a stable build. Closed beta testing do plays an important role before the software is rolled out to the public. However, Xiaomi is now committed to following a different approach and it would be interesting to see how it goes.
